Modi only talks about Gujarat to divert attention from other election results: Jairam Ramesh

Jaipur. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about Gujarat election results only to divert attention from the results of other elections.

Along with this, Ramesh cited the ‘informal alliance’ of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as one of the reasons for the poor performance of the Congress in the Gujarat elections.

Speaking to reporters at Laban village in Bundi district, Ramesh, who is part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, said, “Look at the results of Himachal Pradesh as well,” when asked about the poor performance of the Congress in the Gujarat assembly elections.

Regarding the Gujarat elections only, the Prime Minister keeps saying again and again that this happened in Gujarat, this happened in Gujarat… whereas there are many reasons for these election results in Gujarat.

He said, on one hand, Congress was fighting against a three-party alliance in Gujarat. First BJP, second AAP and third AIMIM… It was their informal alliance.

AAP and AIMIM had only one objective – to cut Congress votes. In this she was successful.

Our vote share dropped from 40 per cent to 27 per cent. Ramesh said, the second reason is that all the institutions of the state and central government were engaged in helping the BJP. We made several complaints about this in the Election Commission, but we did not get any hearing.

According to the senior Congress leader, the third reason is the election expenditure. Compared to the Congress, the BJP was spending eight-nine times more on campaigning.

Describing the Gujarat assembly election results as disappointing for the party, he said, there were shortcomings in our organisation. We haven’t been as aggressive as in 2017. We are shocked and the result is very disappointing for us, but there are many reasons for this.

Ramesha said, the prime minister only talks about Gujarat because he wants to divert attention from other elections (results).

Whereas, the Prime Minister held ten rallies in Himachal, the National President of BJP is from Himachal… The Information and Broadcasting Minister of the Central Government is from Himachal.

The Prime Minister does not talk about Himachal, while his vote share has decreased by five percent in Himachal… The Prime Minister only wants to talk about Gujarat.

Along with this, Ramesh targeted the policies of the central government regarding the increasing unemployment in the country.

In this regard, he appreciated the two ambitious schemes of the Ashok Gehlot government of the state, Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme and Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana.

On the question related to the tussle between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, Ramesh said, we are one.

are members of an organization. A new atmosphere has been created through the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Rahul Gandhi had said in Madhya Pradesh that both (Gehlot and Pilot) are assets for us. The organization needs both.
