Prashant Kishor said – Mere opposition united is not enough to defeat BJP

Giving an example, Prashant Kishor said, “We saw in the Uttar Pradesh elections that Samajwadi-BSP and other parties fought together but had to face defeat against the BJP.”

Electoral strategist Prashant Kishor believes that the unity of opposition parties alone is not enough to defeat the BJP. This reaction of Prashant Kishor came when during an interview given to a news channel, he was asked that Mamta Banerjee is calling for uniting opposition parties against BJP, how effective will this effort be?

During an interview to India Today, Prashant Kishor said, “The unity of the opposition is not enough to defeat the BJP. If the opposition parties come together, a strong alliance may appear to be formed against the BJP, but winning an election against the BJP is a different matter. We have seen in the last elections that the BJP has defeated the alliance.”

Giving example, Prashant Kishor said, “We saw in the Uttar Pradesh elections that Samajwadi-BSP and other parties fought together but had to face defeat against the BJP. In Assam, the Grand Alliance faced defeat against the BJP. Whatever has happened, we have to learn from it. Mere coming together of other parties against the BJP cannot be the key to victory against them.

Asked about the opposition coming together against the BJP and their chances of victory, Prashant Kishor said, “For this you have to have a face, you have to be a narrative and after that there are other equations.” However, when asked who could be the face in the opposition camp to challenge the BJP? Prashant Kishor refused to name anyone in response.

Prashant Kishor said, “I believe that people will not vote for the BJP just by coming together with the opposition parties. In some places an alliance of opposition parties may be in a winning position against the BJP but in most places with this equation, victory is not guaranteed.

Prashant Kishor once again gave the example of Assam elections and said that then the Grand Alliance came together against the BJP, but the BJP won the election and that Grand Alliance also disintegrated later.
