Mobilization intensifies in Congress for Chief Minister’s post in Himachal Pradesh, these leaders are in race to become CM

Shimla. Mobilization for the chief minister’s post continued on Saturday in Himachal Pradesh, a day after the newly elected Congress legislators passed a unanimous resolution giving the party president the right to choose the leader of the legislature party. Since morning, Congress MLAs started gathering at Cecil Hotel in Shimla where the party’s central observers – Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Patel and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda – are staying.

Despite winning the assembly elections with a clear mandate, the Congress is finding it difficult to fill the void created by the death of six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. The Congress is facing difficulties in building a consensus on the leader of the legislature party. The leader of the Legislature Party will be the Chief Minister.

Several leaders, including state Congress chief Pratibha Singh, Mukesh Agnihotri, who was the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly so far, and election campaign committee chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, are believed to be in the race for the top post and have met observers separately . Pratibha Singh (66) has indicated that she is in the race for the chief minister’s post. His son has also pointed this out.

Talking to reporters on Saturday, Sukhu said, I am not an aspirant for the post of Chief Minister. I am only a Congress worker. I will accept whatever decision the top leadership takes. Earlier on Friday, observers along with AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajeev Shukla met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and sought time to stake claim to form the government by handing over the list of winning MLAs of the party. The Congress has 40 MLAs in the 68-member assembly.
