Punjab MP addresses Canadian Legislature in Punjabi

Chandigarh. Punjab-origin Parliamentary Secretary Rachna Singh has created history by addressing the legislature in Punjabi for the anti-racism initiative in British Columbia, Canada. The MLA of Surrey-Green Timbers, who is the daughter of a renowned Punjabi scholar Raghbir Singh Sirjana, made a brief introduction to the House in her mother tongue on Tuesday.

In her address, Rachna Singh recognized the sacrifices made by supporters of a Punjabi speaking region in India. He not only thanked the Government of Canada for giving opportunities to the Punjabi language to develop in foreign lands and also expressed his support for the indigenous people. Rachna Singh, who spent the early years of her life in Chandigarh, is the granddaughter of the late Tera Singh Chann, a prominent Punjabi playwright. (IANS)
