MF investors were not affected by the fall in the stock market, invested 18,529 crores in May

Mutual fund investors made a net investment of Rs 18,529 crore in equity mutual funds in May. This is the 15th consecutive month that the inflows of equity mutual funds have been positive. The attractiveness of investors towards Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is increasing continuously due to which equity mutual funds are continuously investing.

More investment in May than in April

Industry body Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) on Thursday said the May figure is higher as compared to net investment of Rs 15,890 crore in equity mutual funds in April. Net investment in schemes related to investment in equity i.e. shares has been increasing since March 2021. This reflects a positive sentiment among investors about such schemes. Earlier, an amount of Rs 46,791 crore was withdrawn from these schemes continuously during July, 2020 to February, 2021. At the same time, investment through SIP increased to Rs 12,286 crore in May 2022 from Rs 11,863 crore in April. After investing Rs 10,351 crore in September 2021, this is the ninth consecutive month that SIP inflows have exceeded Rs 10,000 crore.

Invested in ETFs too

Apart from equities, gold exchange traded funds (ETFs) brought in a net investment of Rs 203 crore during the month under review. On the other hand, the debt or bond category saw a net outflow of Rs 32,722 crore last month. However, in April it had a net investment of Rs 69,883 crore. Overall, the mutual fund industry saw withdrawals of Rs 7,532 crore during the month of May, as against a net inflow of Rs 72,846 crore in the previous month.
