US Open 2021: Novak Djokovic will face Daniil Medvedev in the final of the US Open. Daniil Medvedev of Russia defeated 12th seed Felix Auger Eliasime of Canada in the second semi-final match of the men’s singles. Djokovic had earlier defeated Zverev to reach the final.
Second seed Medvedev defeated Eliasime in straight sets. Eliasime failed to challenge Medvedev and defeated him 6-4, 7-5, 6-2. Medvedev will face world No. 1 player Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the final.
However, the journey to reach the final was not easy for Djokovic. Djokovic was given a tough fight by fourth seed Germany’s Alexander Zverev. Djokovic, however, won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to reach the final.
Djokovic has a chance to make a record
Medvedev has a 3-5 record in ATP head to head against Djokovic. Medvedev won his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title in Toronto and reached the semifinals in Cincinnati. Eliasime, on the other hand, entered the first major semi-final of his career and became the first Canadian male tennis player to reach the semi-finals of the US Open.
Let us tell you that the final match between Djokovic and Medvedev can prove to be historic. By winning this match, Djokovic has a chance to make two big records in his name. Djokovic can not only complete the calendar Grand Slam by winning the US Open, but he will also overtake Federer and Nadal by winning the 21st Grand Slam. At present, all three players are on equal footing with 20-20 Grand Slams.
