Mahindra Unveils Electric Thar Concept and Roadmap for Upcoming Electric SUVs

In a groundbreaking event, Mahindra & Mahindra has taken the automotive world by storm with its #FutureScape showcase in South Africa. The showcase featured the introduction of the Electric Thar concept, a cutting-edge tractor range, and a global pickup based on the Scorpio N SUV. The Electric Thar concept, named Thar.E, is built on the NGLO-P1 platform and boasts significant advancements.

Thar.E’s design is characterized by a square front with retro-styling, a distinctive rectangular grille, and a Hummer-inspired redesigned front bumper. The SUV flaunts square LED DRL signatures, a flat roof, and an attention-grabbing side profile that highlights its large wheels and off-road tires. The rear is adorned with LED taillamps, a sleek blacked-out profile, and a tailgate integrated with a spare wheel.

Crucially, both the 3-door and 5-door variants of the Mahindra Thar electric models share a common rear powertrain and battery setup, with components sourced from BYD, a leading Chinese car manufacturer. The electric Thar is anticipated to feature a dual-motor 4WD system, providing impressive off-road capabilities.

Mahindra’s electric future doesn’t stop with the Thar concept. The company has also laid out the launch schedule for four upcoming electric SUVs: XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, and BE.07. The XUV.e8, an electric iteration of the XUV700, is slated to hit the roads by December 2024. Following suit, the XUV.e9 is set for an April 2025 release, while BE.05 is expected to launch in October 2025. Lastly, the BE.07 is projected to make its debut in April 2026. This ambitious roadmap solidifies Mahindra’s commitment to the electrification journey and its place at the forefront of sustainable mobility.
