Bhopal | Shivraj Canceled Foreign Trip : Allegations and counter-allegations continue between the BJP and the Congress regarding the order of the Supreme Court of the country to conduct Panchayat elections without reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Madhya Pradesh. In the midst of all this, now the Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chouhan has canceled his proposed foreign trip in relation to investment today. Shri Chouhan said in a statement that he has also canceled all the meetings to be held today regarding foreign migration with immediate effect. He told that he was going to travel abroad from May 14 to attract investment in Madhya Pradesh. But with regard to OBC reservation, the state government has to re-appear before the Supreme Court and the protection of the interests of OBCs is their priority, so they are canceling the proposed foreign travel.

Shivraj Canceled Foreign Trip : CM Chouhan has said in his statement that yesterday the Supreme Court has given a decision to conduct elections in the local bodies of Madhya Pradesh without backward class reservation. My government is fully committed to the social, economic and political empowerment of the Other Backward Classes. The decision of the Hon’ble Court is a decision affecting the representation in the local bodies. Therefore, the state government has decided to file a revised petition again in the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

OBC population in the state is more than 50 percent

Shivraj Canceled Foreign Trip : Let us inform that CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was about to travel abroad to attract investment in Madhya Pradesh. He said that at this time it is my priority to present my side in the court again and protect the interests of the backward classes, so I am canceling my proposed foreign trip. The Supreme Court, in its order yesterday, has directed the State Election Commission to issue notification regarding elections in two weeks. According to the constitutional provisions, Panchayat elections should be held every five years, but after the stipulated period, almost two more years have elapsed.

In the present situation, there will be 20 percent reservation for scheduled tribes and 16 percent for scheduled castes if elections are held. While there will be no reservation for OBC. Whereas in the past, OBCs were also getting 27 percent reservation. For some time, there has been continuous rhetoric between BJP and Congress leaders on the issue of reservation for OBC category. The OBC population in the state is more than 50 percent.
