Virat Kohli Did Not Want to Leave the Captaincy of ODI Team: Taking a big decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday removed Virat Kohli from the post of captain of the ODI team. The BCCI entrusted this responsibility to T20 captain Rohit Sharma.

Kohli may have left the captaincy in T20 International, but he did not want to give up the command of the ODI team. According to the report, the BCCI had given Kohli 48 hours to step down from the captaincy himself. But Kohli did not give up the captaincy. After this, the board appointed Rohit Sharma as the captain of the ODI team in the 49th hour.

There was no mention of Kohli’s dismissal in the BCCI statement, which only said that the selection committee has decided to name Rohit Sharma as the captain of the ODI and T20I teams while going ahead.

The BCCI and the national selection committee removed Kohli from the captaincy, whose ambition would probably be to lead the Indian team in the 2023 ODI World Cup at home. The moment India were eliminated from the group stage of the T20 World Cup, it was decided to remove Kohli from the captaincy. But the BCCI officials wanted to give a respectable path to the captain of the team for the last four and a half years.

However, in the end it seems that Kohli asked the BCCI to show him sacking and the apex body of the game went ahead and did the same and was left with no option but to accept it.

The captaincy period of Kohli has been a wonderful story in itself. Mahendra Singh Dhoni groomed Kohli under his leadership and then when he felt that the time had come, he handed over the responsibility of the white ball to him.

In the next two years, Kohli became the mighty captain of the team who would do things on his own terms. Then there was the committee of administrators set up by the Supreme Court which fulfilled their every demand (some right and some wrong). And then there was the return of the traditional administrators, with very powerful secretaries and presidents who were themselves aware of successful captaincy. In the end, there was no place for two different captains for both the formats of the white ball.
