Kharge, Tharoor or Tripathi… who is the real candidate of Congress? Mistry replied

All the three leaders have filed their nomination papers. meanwhile Congress Madhusudan Mistry, chairman of the Central Election Authority of India, has said that none of them is the official candidate of the party. They are contesting elections on their own. The Gandhi family has not supported any of these.

Madhusudan Mistry said, the Congress President has made it very clear that she will remain neutral throughout the process and if anyone claims that she has his blessings, it is wrong. He said that 14 forms were submitted by Mallikarjun Kharge, 5 by Shashi Tharoor and 1 by KN Tripathi. Kharge submitted 14 sets of nomination papers along with top Congress leaders. His proponents included leaders like Anand Sharma, Prithviraj Chavan, Manish Tewari and Bhupendra Hooda, who are part of the G-23, a group of leaders demanding change in the party. Tharoor himself has been a part of G-23. While he filed five sets of nomination papers, Tripathi, a former Jharkhand minister, filed nomination papers before Congress’s Central Election Authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry.

Kharge, considered the preferred candidate in the race for the post of Congress president, was accompanied by several party leaders while filing his nomination papers at the AICC headquarters here. Kharge said, I have always fought for the rights of the downtrodden and I am ready to fight more to uphold the principles of the Congress party with which I have been associated since childhood.

Shashi Tharoor termed his rival Kharge in the election as the Bhishma Pitamah of the party. After filing his nomination papers, he said, it is an honor to serve the only party in India which elects its leader through an open democratic process. Tharoor, Lok Sabha member from Thiruvananthapuram, told reporters, “It is going to be a friendly contest. We are not enemies or rivals. No disrespect will be shown to him (Kharge) but I will present my views.

Today is the last day to file nomination for the post of Congress President. Voting for the election will be held on October 17 and its results will be declared on October 19. In this, 9,100 representatives have the right to vote. No one from the Gandhi family was present at the Congress headquarters when the candidates filed their nomination papers for the elections today.
