Tharoor himself has been a part of G-23. While he filed five sets of nomination papers, Tripathi, a former Jharkhand minister, filed nomination papers before Congress’s Central Election Authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry.

Kharge, considered the preferred candidate in the race for the post of Congress president, was accompanied by several party leaders while filing his nomination papers at the AICC headquarters here. Shashi Tharoor termed his rival Kharge in the election as the Bhishma Pitamah of the party. Tharoor, Lok Sabha member from Thiruvananthapuram, told reporters, “It is going to be a friendly contest. We are not enemies or rivals. No disrespect will be shown to him (Kharge) but I will present my views.

Today is the last day to file nomination for the post of Congress President. Voting for the election will be held on October 17 and its results will be declared on October 19. In this, 9,100 representatives have the right to vote. No one from the Gandhi family was present at the Congress headquarters when the candidates filed their nomination papers for the elections today.
