Kerala government will introduce a bill to remove the governor from the post of university chancellor

Thiruvananthapuram. The Kerala government on Wednesday decided to introduce a bill in the assembly to remove the governor as the chancellor of state universities and replace him with eminent educationists. The Kerala Legislative Assembly session will begin on December 5.

A draft bill in this regard was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. A government source has confirmed the decision. The cabinet decision comes in the wake of the ongoing tussle between the Left government and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan over various issues related to the functioning of the state’s universities, including the appointment of vice-chancellors (VCs).

Although, Recent orders of the Kerala High Court have vindicated Khan’s stand on the appointments of vice-chancellors of some universities.
