Karnataka: Chief Electoral Officer said- ordered to investigate the alleged theft of voters’ data

Bangalore. Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Meena said members of a non-governmental organization (NGO) posing as booth-level officers during a ‘voter awareness campaign’ amid allegations by the Congress of theft of voter data. An inquiry has been ordered in view of the apprehension of gathering personal information of voters by telling.

Meena told, “The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner had some information. We suspect that work has been done by telling fake identity and it will be inquired. Ultimately, after the investigation by the police and our divisional commissioner, what is the truth will be known.

Congress alleges that private persons working for ‘Chilum Educational Cultural and Rural Development’ (‘Chilum Trust’) were given fake identity cards, posing as booth level officers of BBMP to collect personal information of voters Gone.

Meena declined to comment on the complaint lodged by the Congress with the State Election Commission regarding theft of voter data. He said, “Let’s wait for the investigation. If I comment on anything, it will compromise the investigation. We will not talk about the merit or otherwise of the complaint.

The responsibility of the investigation has been entrusted to the Regional Commissioner. Let the truth come out. Then we will take action as per the recommendation.” The Congress alleges that the Chilum Trust also put the information collected from voters in its personal app.

Asked whether his office would review the deletion of 6.73 lakh names from the voter list in Bengaluru after it was “revealed”, he said additions and deletions were a routine process and would be reviewed. There is no need. Meena informed that 6.73 lakh names have been removed from the voter list in the city and about three lakh new names have been added.
