Joe Root, who is currently in Australia for the Ashes series, demanded ‘change and action’ from Yorkshire. Root said in his statement, “There should be no debate about racism. It is unbearable.”

The Test captain of England further said, “This episode has damaged our game and life. We have to overcome this now and come back as fans, players, media and those working within cricket. We have a chance to make the game that I love better for all of us.”

The county has been widely criticized for its handling of the issue of racism and has lost the right to host England’s international matches at Headingley, in addition to sponsors.
