IRCTC After all the controversies, has finally decided to reverse its decision. Now the company will not monetize the data of its customers. Officials said on Friday that the decision was taken after deep concern over privacy. IRCTC told the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology on Friday that the tender has been withdrawn. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is the chairman of this committee.

Parliamentary committee summoned

The company had to hire a consultant to make money from digital data. A tender was also floated for the same. In this regard, the Parliamentary Committee had summoned the officials of IRCTC. IRCTC Managing Director and Chairperson Rajni Hasija along with other officials appeared before the committee and informed the committee about the withdrawal of the tender. The committee was informed on behalf of the company that the decision to withdraw the tender was taken in the annual general meeting of IRCTC.

What was the IRCTC plan?

IRCTC ticket booking arm had planned to earn Rs 1000 crore through digital monetization. In the tender issued by the company, it was said that IRCTC will hire a consultant who will give his opinion on the ways to monetize the data of the users. Let us tell you, the company has data of more than 100 TB users, which includes important information ranging from name, address, number and many more.

IIF had expressed concern?

IFF (Internet Freedom Foundation) is an organization that monitors data related to the Internet and works for the safety of users. IFF had raised concerns that IRCTC may sell this data to third parties in the absence of a data protection law. However, at that time IRCTC had said on this issue that it is doing this to improve the experience of the users. Along with this, he will also get some money.

How much was the threat to the users

If the company succeeds in data monetization, how will it affect the privacy and safety of users? The exact information about this has not been revealed yet, but it was expected that the data of the users can be used to track their activity. Like what do you like to eat? If your data is shared with the company of your choice, then the next time you travel, you will start getting notifications related to that company. You started receiving cab service calls.
