IPL 2021: This Australian fast bowler joined DC in place of Woakes, is a specialist in T20

IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals (DC) has announced the replacement of England fast bowler Chris Woakes, who has withdrawn his name from the IPL. Delhi Capitals have included Australian fast bowler and T20 specialist Ben Dwarshuis in their team in place of Woakes. The second phase of IPL is starting in UAE from 19th September. However, on Saturday, the Delhi Capitals team suffered a major setback when Woakes withdrew from the tournament citing personal reasons. Apart from Woakes, two other England players who played in the IPL, Jonny Bairstow and David Malan also withdrew from the IPL due to personal reasons.

Delhi Capitals issued a statement saying, “England all-rounder Chris Woakes has pulled out of the second phase of the IPL to be played in the UAE due to personal reasons. He will be replaced by Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuish for the remaining matches of the IPL.” He has been included in the team of Delhi Capitals.

Ben Dwarshuish has a great record in the Big Bash League

Ben Dwarshuish plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, a T20 tournament in Australia. With 85 wickets in 69 matches, Dawarshuish is the sixth highest wicket-taker in the history of this T20 league. In his career so far, Dawarshuish has taken 100 wickets in 82 T20 matches at an average of 23.73.

Bairstow and Malan’s replacements have already been announced

Two other England batsmen Jonny Bairstow and David Malan also withdrew their names from the IPL due to personal reasons. Bairstow plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Malan for Punjab Kings in the IPL. Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed West Indies explosive batsman Sherfane Rutherford as Bairstow’s replacement. Rutherford has scored 1102 runs in T20 format at a strike rate of 138.26. He was part of the Mumbai Indians team that won the IPL in 2020, although he did not get to play a single match. Overall, he has played seven matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL in 2019, scoring 73 runs at a strike rate of 135.18 and taking one wicket.

At the same time, Punjab Kings have included South African batsman Adem Markram in their team in place of David Malan.
