Ashwin On Last Over: A bad ball from star off-spinner R Ashwin kept Delhi Capitals away from winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. In Qualifier-2 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rahul Tripathi hit a six off Ashwin to give his team a thrilling victory. Ashwin has given a statement for the first time on the drama of that last over.
35-year-old Ashwin made Delhi’s return to the match by taking the wickets of Shakib Al Hasan and Sunil Narine in the last over of the match. But Rahul Tripathi hit a six on the fifth ball of the over to take KKR to the final. Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, ‘I thought Rahul Tripathi would go ahead, that’s why I bowled a good length ball outside the off-stump. But Rahul remained at the crease and hit a six over long off.
Because of this Ashwin bowled short ball
Ashwin said that I did not think much on the first four balls and it worked. On the fifth ball I thought we had won. Then I thought about the small boundary. I thought Rahul would move on. That’s why I bowled the short ball. He had not even hit a four on any of my balls before. Unfortunately it came at the wrong time.
WHAT. A. FINISH! . @KKRiders hold their nerve and seal a thrilling win over the spirited @DelhiCapitals in the #VIVOIPL #Qualifier2 & secure a place in the #Final. . #KKRvDC
