The Defense Ministry on Thursday signed a deal worth Rs 1700 crore with BrahMos Aerospace for the purchase of BrahMos missiles. To promote self-reliance in defense production, this deal has been done under the ‘Buy Indian’ (Procurement of Made in India) initiative. This will increase the strength of India. The induction of these dual-role capable missiles into service will significantly enhance the operational capability of the Indian Navy’s fleet, the ministry said in a statement.

BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL), a joint venture between India and Russia, is making a significant contribution to the promotion of new generation surface-to-surface missiles (SSM). These missiles can play a dual role, in which they can be fired from the ground as well as from the ship.

Brahmos is the deadliest cruise missile

BrahMos is the world’s fastest and deadliest cruise missile. 21 years ago on 12 June 2001, the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was first tested from a ground-based launcher at Chandipur. But during this journey of 21 years, it has been updated many times and Brahmos has been tested from almost all the platforms not only on the ground but now.

The BrahMos missile has been test-launched for land-to-ground, land-to-sea, sea-to-land, sea-to-sea, air-to-sea and air-to-land launches. Let us tell you that BrahMos is included in the three wings of the Indian Army.

The range has already increased manifold

At the same time, if we talk about the range of BrahMos missile, then initially its range was up to 290 km, which has now been increased to 350-400 km. At the same time, work is also going on on the 800 km variant. An underwater version of the BrahMos missiles is also being developed. It will not only be used by submarines of India, but will also be offered for export to friendly countries.
