French Open Badminton Tournament 2021: Indian badminton player and two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu’s dream of winning the French Open 2021 title was shattered. In the women’s singles semi-final on Saturday, PV Sindhu defeated Japanese player Sayaka Takahashi in a three-game clash. In this way Sindhu’s journey of French Open badminton tournament came to an end. The 26-year-old from Hyderabad failed to capitalize on winning the first game and went down 21-18, 16-21, 12-21 to world No. 15 Takahashi.

Lost to Japanese player for the fourth time
With the loss of the semi-final match, Sindhu had to face the fourth defeat in eight matches against the Japanese player. Reigning world champion Sindhu had lost in the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open in Odense last week. For some time now, PV Sindhu seems to be struggling for her form.

Such was the thrill of the competition
The Indian player started in this match in a positive way. Both the players were tied at one time 5-5 and then 9-9 in the first game. The Japanese were leading 11-10 at the break. Sindhu made a comeback after the break and went on to lead 17-16. Sindhu then had four game points, in which she lost two but managed to win the first game.

In the second game too, Sindhu maintained her momentum in the beginning. She was at one point leading 5-2, but Takahashi soon leveled the score at 6-6. Sindhu showed a great defense and took some hard shots to take a 9-6 lead and kept herself ahead till the break. But after the break, Sindhu continued to make mistakes which led the Japanese to lead 13-12. Takahashi soon took an 18-14 lead and then dragged the match to the decider.

In the third game too, both players initially challenged each other hard, but as the game progressed, Takahashi started to dominate. She was leading 11-6 till the break. She maintained this lead till the end and Sindhu was able to defend only one of them scoring nine match points.
