However, the ECB had earlier used the word Forfeit in its statement. The English board had said that India had abandoned the match and the series was tied at 2-2. But after some time he changed his statement and said to cancel the match.

On the other hand, BCCI had consistently said that they have not left the match and they are ready to play this match anytime. The Indian board had also said that both the boards are now looking for a window to play this match.

Know how the result of the series can come out

For your information, let us tell you that the result of the series is now in the hands of the International Cricket Council (ICC). If the ICC decides that India has not played this match due to Corona, then the match will be considered canceled and India will be declared a 2-1 victory in the series. But if the ICC feels that India has abandoned this match, then in the fifth Test, England will be given a win and the series will be drawn 2-2.

What do ICC rules say?

According to the ICC rules made for the World Test Championship, if a team has cases of corona, then they can refuse to play any match. However, this is possible only when there are cases of corona in a team and then it is not able to field the playing XI. But this has not happened in the case of India. No player of the Indian team was infected and before the match the RT-PCR report of all its players also came negative. Now it will be interesting to see whether the ICC considers Team India’s decision to not play the match as a valid reason for fear of coming to the Corona case or not.

ECB will suffer huge loss!

If the five-match Test series between India and England ends at 2-1, then the ECB will not get the insurance money, but if its result comes out at 2-2, then they will be able to take the insurance. In the absence of the result of the series, the England board is likely to suffer a loss of 30 million Great Britain pounds (about 306 crore rupees). And that is why the English board is pressurizing that the match should be considered abandoned by India.
