India’s record

Talking about the record of Indian team in Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Stadium, India has so far played 9 Boxing Day Test matches in Australia. The first Boxing Day Test between the two teams was played in Australia in 1985, which ended in a draw. Then the command of India was with Kapil Dev and the captain of Australia was Allan Border. After that Australia won five consecutive Boxing Day Tests against India. At the same time, in 2014, the match played at MCG under the leadership of MS Dhoni ended in a draw. India did not get the pleasure of victory in the Boxing Day Test here for 33 years.

After a long wait of 33 years, India again achieved a double. India has hoisted the winning flag in its last two matches at the MCG. In such a situation, when Team India lands here this time, its spirits will be high. In 2018, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India defeated Australia by 137 runs in the Boxing Day Test. India defeated Australia by 8 wickets at MCG in 2020. At that time Ajinkya Rahane was handling the reins of India. Kohli returned to India on parental leave after playing one Test on the Australia tour in 2020. After that Rahane captained the remaining three matches.
