The bugle of the assembly elections has been sounded in Uttar Pradesh and all the political parties have entered the election campaign with full force. There are many such seats in the state, where particular leaders or a particular party has dominated for a long time. Azamgarh seat of Azamgarh district is also similar, where SP has dominated. Till date BJP has not won here. Even after the wave of Ram Mandir campaign in 1991 elections, BJP did not get victory in Azamgarh seat. At the same time, despite the Modi-Yogi wave in the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP could not win the Azamgarh seat.
Durga Yadav, who has been winning continuously for the last 5 times: Presently, Durga Prasad Yadav of Samajwadi Party is the MLA from Azamgarh assembly seat. He has reached the assembly by winning consecutively for the last 5 elections. Durga Prasad Yadav won from Azamgarh seat in 1996, 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017. Not only this, Durga Prasad has also reached the assembly from here after winning the independent election in 1985.
Whereas in 1989 and 1991, he contested the elections on Janata Dal ticket and won. After that, he contested elections continuously from 1996 on the ticket of Samajwadi Party and reached the assembly after winning.
Ethnic Equation: If we talk about Azamgarh assembly, then the caste equation here fits well for the Samajwadi Party. Muslim-Yadav voters are in good numbers in this seat and this decides the direction of the election. The rest of the upper caste and Dalit voters are also fine here.
BJP has never won till now: Let us inform that after independence, elections have been held on Azamgarh seat 16 times and the Bharatiya Janata Party has not been able to win even once. 2 times Praja Socialist Party, 2 times Samyukta Socialist Party, 1 time Bharatiya Kranti Dal, 1 time Indira Congress and Indian National Congress, 1 time BSP, 1 time Independent, 2 times Janata Dal and 5 times Samajwadi Party from Azamgarh seat Victory is achieved.
