Huge US discount to India

What a miracle they do when citizens of Indian origin are part of the governance in foreign countries. Nowadays there is talk of Rishi Sunak becoming the Prime Minister of Britain, but an Indian member of the US House of Representatives (Lok Sabha) has done that which seemed impossible. A member named Ro Khanna stopped America’s National Defense Authorization Act from coming into force on India. This act is being strictly enforced on countries like China, North Korea, Iran etc.

This restriction is called ‘katsa’. According to this, America will not do any kind of transaction with whichever nation buys weapons etc. from Russia. Turkey is also facing a lot of pressure, because it wants to buy Russian missiles. As far as India is concerned, Russia is the largest seller of arms and tactical goods to India. It is not from today, but from the era of the Cold War.

Many scholars and policy-makers in America have been calling India the stooge of Russia. Nowadays India has a deal with Russia for the purchase of S-400 missiles and since the Ukraine crisis, Russia is also providing oil to India on a large scale at cheap prices. Despite this, the resolution moved by Ro Khanna has been passed by the US lower house with a thumping majority. President Joe Biden had indicated this with a suppressed tongue, otherwise the US President has the right to free a country from this restriction on the basis of his discretion.

America has not only taken this historic step in favor of India, before that it also respected its neutrality on the question of Ukraine. The root cause of this is that India and America are working side by side in the two quadrants of West Asia and Far-East Asia. Strategic cooperation between the two countries is increasing at a rapid pace. In 2008, the Indo-US strategic deal was worth only 500 million dollars. It has now grown to $2000 million.

At present, Russia and China are running such a policy together, as if they are members of an alliance. In such a situation, it is very important for America to keep India together. The sourness that has arisen in the relations between India and China is like a delicious sauce for America. What can be better than increasing friendship between the two largest democracies of the world.
