Punjab government is considering restoring old pension

Chandigarh. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that his government is contemplating to restore the old pension scheme for government employees. Mann tweeted message that the government is considering to restore the old pension system. He said that the Chief Secretary has been asked to look into the feasibility of its implementation. Mann said that the government is committed to the welfare of the employees.

Bhagwant Mann said that most of the government employees in the state are demanding restoration of the old pension scheme, which was discontinued in 2004. It is noteworthy that in August last year, Aam Aadmi Party leader and current Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had promised that the old pension system would be restored if his party came to power in Punjab.

Punjab Civil Secretariat Employees Union President Sukhchain Singh Khaira welcomed the Chief Minister’s announcement and said that the employees of the state have been fighting for a long time to restore the old pension system.
