High court strict on officials in garbage disposal case

Nainital. In the case of no concrete action yet to be taken regarding the garbage disposal case in Uttarakhand, the High Court can fall on all the District Magistrates. Taking this matter very seriously, the court on Tuesday asked the district magistrates and the government to submit a compliance report of the 2017 order. A public interest litigation filed by Jitendra Yadav, a resident of Almora, was heard in the pair bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice RC Khulbe. It was said on behalf of the petitioner that the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 are not being followed in the matter of solid waste disposal in the state. No concrete steps have been taken in any of the bodies.

In the name of solid waste management, dumping zones are being created in big cities and bodies. There is no concrete plan for the disposal of plastic waste. As a result of this, mountains of garbage are rising in the cities. Haldwani dumping zone was also cited by the petitioner.
