Harish Rawat’s U-turn on the statement contesting elections led by Sidhu, know what he said
Significantly, on the day of Charanjit Singh Channi’s oath, Harish Rawat had said that the next assembly election in Punjab would be fought under the leadership of Sidhu. Congress leader Sunil Jakhar had also objected to this statement.
Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Punjab, Congress in-charge of the state Harish Rawat has now reversed his statement, in which he had said that next year’s Punjab Assembly elections will be fought under the leadership of Navjot Singh Sidhu. While talking in a program of private news channel ABP News, Harish Rawat took a U-turn from his own statement and said that, no one has said this and neither is it.
Who will be the face for the post of CM: After this Rawat was asked that, you are clearly saying that neither Sidhu nor Channi will be the face of CM post in the Punjab Assembly elections. On this Rawat said that, we have not said this anywhere. After the election, the party chooses the CM face in its traditional way.
On the other hand, regarding the ongoing rift in the Punjab Congress, Rawat said that people have different views on an issue, everyone gives their opinion, but when the party takes a decision, then everyone stands together on it. The same thing happened in Punjab.
In fact, regarding contesting the next assembly elections under the leadership of former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu, Harish Rawat clearly said that no one had said this. Rawat said that, a question was asked to me, in response to which I had said during that time that, together, Sidhu and the Chief Minister will make us win the Punjab elections. And if we talk about the selection of the Chief Minister’s face, then there is a democratic tradition inside our party, according to which the name of the CM is chosen after the election.
Statement given on the day of oath: Let us inform that on the day of oath taking of Charanjit Singh Channi as Chief Minister of Punjab, Harish Rawat had said in a statement that, the next assembly elections in Punjab will be fought under Sidhu’s leadership. Congress leader Sunil Jakhar had also objected to this statement.
Jakhar wrote in his tweet that, “On the day of Charanchit Singh Channi’s oath, Rawat’s “statement contesting elections under Sidhu’s leadership” is shocking.” At present, Rawat’s statement came when Navjot Singh Sidhu was the state president of Punjab Congress. At present, Sidhu has resigned from the post of Punjab Congress President.
