NIA to probe Shiv Sena leader murder case

New Delhi. Sources said on Saturday that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) may take over the investigation into the murder of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri. Suri was shot dead outside a temple in Amritsar during a movement. The accused in this case are said to have alleged links with Khalistani terrorist groups. He said that a team of NIA has been sent to Punjab in connection with the case. However, the investigating agency has not yet given any official statement. On Friday, local shopkeeper Sandeep Singh Sunny shot dead a Shiv Sena leader with a 32-bore pistol outside Gopal Mandir in broad daylight.

He was arrested while the three accomplices managed to escape from the spot. Suri was opposing the temple management. Sources said that he had challenged Khalistani groups several times in the past and he was on their radar. The Punjab Police had provided him with 15 security personnel and a gypsy. Shiv Sena has also called for a protest against the killing. A few hours before the attack, Suri did a Facebook Live. The police had said that they are taking the matter very seriously. Appealed to the people to maintain law and order. (IANS)
