Got Summon: Bad news has come for the company from India as soon as Elon Musk takes over the command of Twitter. In fact, the sword of action is hanging not only on Twitter but on many other giant companies like Google, Facebook- WhatsApp, Apple, Amazon.

A committee of Parliament on Thursday decided to summon representatives of technology companies including Google, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter and other technology companies to discuss their competitive activities.

Will appear on May 12

This issue is about non-competitive conduct. The move comes amid Competition Commission of India (CCI) investigations against several leading global technology companies. The next meeting of the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance is likely to be held on May 12. The members of the committee discussed in detail the points raised by the CCI in this regard. The regulator told the committee that it is setting up a ‘digital market and data unit’. Its objective is to effectively deal with the anti-competitive activities of large technology companies and to bring a new bill to amend the CCI Act.

These companies will get summons

The Competition Commission referred to investigations by digital entities including Google, Facebook- WhatsApp, Apple, Amazon, Flipkart, MakeMyTrip-Go, Ibibo, Swiggy and Zomato. The meeting comes amid growing concern in various countries of the world, including India, over the alleged activities of big technology companies and technology forums. It is believed that the conduct of these companies may adversely affect the competition in the market.

Government tough on the challenges of competition

Sinha said, “We are going to invite all the major companies including Google, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Microsoft among others. Competition laws are evolving to meet the challenges related to the digital market across the world.” Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union Minister Sinha said the committee will discuss the competitive activities of these companies.
