‘Release memo’ issued for Gautam Navlakha’s detention

Mumbai A special court in Mumbai on Saturday issued a ‘release memo’ to Gautam Navlakha, accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist Relations Case, for a month’s house arrest. . After this, Navlakha is likely to walk out of Navi Mumbai’s Taloja Jail on Saturday. The special court hearing the case involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA) issued the release memo at around 2:15 pm on Saturday. Rejecting the NIA’s application, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered that Navlakha be placed under house arrest within 24 hours under any circumstances.

The probe agency on Saturday submitted a compliance report to the special court regarding completion of formalities for the release of social activist Navlakha, following which the court issued the release memo. It will later be sent to the jail authorities and the Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner. After his release from jail, Navlakha will be taken to the premises selected for his detention in Navi Mumbai.
