Penalty imposed for misrepresenting the source of manufacturing of products on the website of e-commerce companies

Notices to E-Commerce Companies : for violating the rules e-commerce The government has collected huge fines from the companies. The Central Government has issued 202 notices in the last one year for giving wrong information about the country of origin such as the country of manufacture of the products listed on the website of e-commerce companies. And the 76 companies which have admitted their mistake have recovered Rs 42,85,400 as fine.

217 notices issued to e-commerce companies

These notices have been issued to e-commerce companies in the matter related to electronic equipment. Notices have also been given regarding textiles and products used in homes. Out of a total of 217 notices, 202 notices have been given for violation of rules related to manufacturing source country. The remaining 15 notices were given regarding expiry date, incorrect information on the address of the manufacturer and the importer, overcharging of maximum retail price (MRP), non-standard units and error in net quantity. However, the consumer affairs ministry did not name the e-commerce companies to whom the notices have been issued.

The government did not tell the name of the company

On not disclosing the names of the companies violating the rules, Consumer Affairs Secretary Leena Nandan said that through this we are trying to alert both the companies and the consumers. He said that companies should be aware that in terms of redressal of consumer complaints, all that is required by law is done. And consumers should also know their rights.
