The Tila Mor police arrested Chiranjeevi Sharma alias Kalu Pandit of Rajpur village on the basis of CCTV footage and video clippings circulated on social media late Thursday night, officials said. Kalu Pandit was caught from the intersection of Karan Gate area of Loni Road. According to the police, after his arrest, Pandit has revealed the names of his accomplices involved in Varun’s murder on the night of October 25 during interrogation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Munirajji told reporters that when the police reached across the Hindon river bridge in Farukh Nagar to recover the car used by the assailants after the incident, the accused Pandit took the service revolver of Sub-Inspector Subhash. snatched and started firing to escape from the police.
The SSP said that in self-defence, the police also retaliated, due to which Pandit was shot in the right leg. He has been admitted to the District Government Hospital for treatment.
According to the police, Pandit and his associates have been identified after a video clipping of the incident on the night of October 25 was circulated on social media.
Officials said that CCTV footage has also been recovered from a nearby hospital and police teams have started raiding the possible hideouts of Pandit’s associates.
According to the police, several cases have been registered against Pandit for criminal activities in the past. The SSP said that the car used in the crime, the service revolver of the sub-inspector and a used cartridge have been recovered. (Language)
