Five high profile people will go to Rajya Sabha from you

Chandigarh. On Monday, the last day of filing nominations for five Rajya Sabha seats, the Aam Aadmi Party announced the names of five candidates and all five filled their papers on the last day. On the day of withdrawal, all the candidates will be declared elected unopposed as no party has fielded its candidate. All the candidates elected by AAP to the Rajya Sabha are high profile people. Out of these, one is Sikh and four are non-Sikh, while two people are from outside, due to which there is a protest in the state.

The candidates announced by the Aam Aadmi Party included former Jalandhar-based cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Phagwara-based Lovely Professional University Vice Chancellor Ashok Mittal, Delhi MLA and Punjab Party co-in-charge Raghav Chadha, industrialist Sanjeev Arora from Ludhiana and Delhi IIT professor. The name of Dr. Sandeep Pathak is included. Pathak played the role of election strategist for AAP in Punjab. He has previously worked with Prashant Kishor’s team.

It is being told that Pathak also worked for the party behind the scenes in the 2020 assembly elections in Delhi. Cricketer Harbhajan Singh is a resident of Jalandhar and there was talk of him going to Congress before the elections. It is believed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has included his name. There is also talk of handing over the command of the newly formed sports university in the state to him.

However, the opposition parties have raised the issue of outsiders regarding the candidates of Aam Aadmi Party. Congress MLAs Raja Amarinder Singh Wadding and Sukhpal Khaira opposed this. He says that only Punjabis should be sent to the Rajya Sabha to raise the voice of Punjab. Akali Dal spokesperson Harcharan Singh Bains also opposed it. It is worth mentioning that five seats are falling vacant due to the end of the term of BJP’s Shwet Malik, apart from Pratap Singh Bajwa and Shamsher Singh Dulo of Congress, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Naresh Gujral of Akali Dal.
