Ten years imprisonment for raping minor

Supaul. A court in Bihar’s Supaul district today sentenced a man convicted of abducting and raping a minor to ten years’ rigorous imprisonment.

Additional District and Sessions Judge cum Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012, (POCSO) Special Judge Pathak Alok Kaushik, while hearing on the point of punishment in the case, granted POCSO Act to Mohammad Israel Safi, resident of Pratapganj police station area of ​​the district. He was sentenced under various sections. The court has also imposed a total fine of one lakh rupees on the guilty. The said amount has been ordered to be given to the victim. On payment of the fine, the guilty shall undergo further imprisonment of four years and six months. Earlier, on April 20, the court had reserved its verdict till Monday, holding Israel guilty.

Superintendent of Police D Amarkesh told in relation to the case that in October 2015, the victim was returning back to her home after attending a Shradh program organized in the village, when the accused along with others kidnapped her. Thereafter, the victim was taken to another village where she was raped several times by the convict under threat of a knife. During this, while being taken from one place to another, seeing the local police near Shripur bridge, the victim raised an alarm after which she was freed by the police. An FIR was lodged in the concerned police station against eight people including Mohammad Safi in the case, but due to lack of evidence, the court acquitted all the others.
