FIFA World Cup 2022: Fugitive Zakir Naik called in Qatar, BJP spokesperson said- India should boycott FIFA World Cup

Panaji. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Savio Rodrigues has urged the central government, Indian football associations, NRIs in Qatar and people traveling to Central Asia to discuss the ongoing FIFA World Cup after the Arab country invited controversial Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik. There has been an appeal to boycott the cup. Significantly, Indian fugitive Zakir Naik has been invited by Qatar to deliver a lecture on Islam at the reportedly ongoing event.

In a statement, Rodrigues said on Tuesday, ‘Dr. Zakir Naik is a wanted man under Indian law. He is accused of indulging in money laundering offenses and spreading hatred by giving inflammatory speeches. In fact he is no less than a terrorist. It has openly supported terrorist Osama bin Laden and has been instrumental in spreading Islamic fundamentalism and hatred in India. He said that FIFA World Cup is a global event. People from all over the world come to watch this spectacular game and millions of people also watch it on TV and on the Internet.

‘Doctor. Inviting Zakir Naik means giving a platform to terrorist’
He said that inviting Dr. Zakir Naik at this juncture when the whole world is grappling with global terrorism amounts to giving a platform to a terrorist to spread bigotry and hatred. Not only the Indian people but also the people of other countries suffering from terrorism should boycott the FIFA World Cup as a show of solidarity in the global fight against terrorism. India had outlawed Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) in 2016 after he encouraged and supported people in his group to spread enmity, hatred and hatred between different religious communities and groups. He is reportedly living in Malaysia after fleeing India.
