Farmers movement started again

The farmers have probably realized that they have an effective model to get their demands fulfilled. At one time the Aam Aadmi Party supported this model. But now Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that the farmers’ movement is unnecessary.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must now have realized how easy it is to support the discontent and movement of any section of the society when he is not in power. On the other hand, the farmers of Punjab are also realizing that a party does not become a supporter of the common man just by mentioning its name. The reason for these realizations is the latest conflict that has arisen in Punjab. Hundreds of farmers of Punjab have now gathered on the Chandigarh border on the outskirts of the state. His mobilization is on the same lines, through which he forced the central government to withdraw three agricultural laws. This time one of their demands is to give compensation of Rs 500 per quintal to the farmers who have suffered loss of wheat crop due to heat. His other major demands include the announcement of minimum support price for the purchase of maize, basmati and moong, which was promised by the Aam Aadmi Party during the elections. Farmers also object to the fact that the state government suddenly issued an order to start transplanting paddy from June 18.

On Tuesday, farmers took out a march against the Punjab government and tried to march towards Chandigarh. The police stopped them from proceeding. After which the farmers sat on a sit-in on the Chandigarh-Mohali border. Earlier last week, the Kisan Union’s talks with Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh had failed. After that the union leaders had announced a dharna. The farmers sitting on the dharna have brought ration, gas cylinders, cooking items, beds and coolers with them. Obviously, they intend to camp for a long time. The farmers have probably realized that they have an effective model to get their demands fulfilled. At one time the Aam Aadmi Party supported this model. But now Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that the farmers’ movement is unnecessary. Now if the farmers are considering it as unpromising, then they cannot be blamed for it.
