Central government made major changes in IT rules to prevent arbitrariness of social media platforms

Social media has become an important part of our life. However, these days social media is being used to spread wrong deeds and wrong messages. In such a situation, the central government has made major changes in the IT rules to prevent the arbitrariness of social media platforms. Under these new IT rules, it will be mandatory for other social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to comply with the IT regulations of India. Also, the accountability of all these social media platforms has been fixed.

Action on sensitive issues in 24 hours

Let us tell you that after the new rules of IT, social media platforms will not be able to do their arbitrariness by making excuses of algorithms. These new IT rules have come into force with immediate effect. The biggest thing is that according to the notification of the new IT rules, the complaint appellate panel will be prepared in 90 days. According to the proposed changes, action will have to be taken on sensitive issues within 24 hours. The Government of India, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Friday notified the laws related to Information Technology (IT) Amendment-2022 for complaints against Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.

72 hours to resolve complaints

It is noteworthy that according to the new rules of IT, companies will have to make available information related to service rules and privacy policy on their website, mobile application or both. In which it will also be necessary for the intermediary companies to respect the civil rights mentioned in the Indian Constitution. Under the new rules, 72 hours will be ensured for disposal of complaints. On receipt of the complaint received by the Intermediary Company regarding the removal of objectionable content, the primary action will be taken within 72 hours. Action will have to be taken on any other complaint within 15 days so that the objectionable content does not go viral.

The accountability of social media platforms will be decided

Significantly, the rights of users have been taken care of in the new IT rules and the accountability of social media platforms has been fixed. Social media platforms will have to take action against posts that spread violence. Tech companies have to follow the constitution of India. The complaints of the users will have to be taken cognizance of within 24 hours. Apart from this, a new Government Appeal Committee will be formed. A representative of the Central Government will also be included in this committee. Action will be taken on the post against the sovereignty of India.
