India’s first voter Shyam Saran Negi passes away

Shimla. India’s first voter Shyam Saran Negi passed away on Saturday morning at his residence in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. He was over 100 years old. The Election Commission said that Negi had cast his vote for the state assembly elections on November 3 through ballot paper.

The Election Commission condoled the death of Negi and said that he had great faith in democracy. A spokesperson of the commission said that he was not only the first voter of independent India but also a man of unwavering faith in democracy. Election Commission of India condoles the passing away of Shri Shyam Saran Negi. We are very grateful for his service to the nation.

The Election Commission tweeted, he inspired lakhs of people to vote and vote for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 through ballot paper on November 2 before his death.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have also expressed condolences to Negi’s family. BJP said that BJP expresses deep sorrow and condolences on the death of Shyam Saran Negi, the first voter of independent India. God rest the departed soul. After Negi cast his vote a few days ago, the Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur honored him at his residence. (Language)
