New York. An author who accused former US President Donald Trump of rape in 1990 filed a fresh lawsuit against him here on Thursday. A new law in the state allows sexual violence victims to file cases even against crimes that happened decades ago. Writer E. Jean Carroll filed a lawsuit minutes after the law went into effect.
Carroll’s attorney filed legal documents electronically amid the temporary removal of a deadline for filing a sexual assault lawsuit under the Adult Survivors Act. Carroll has sought compensation for the pain and suffering caused to her, mental injury, loss of dignity and loss of reputation, and punishment for the accused.
Carroll, who wrote a longtime column for Elle magazine, first alleged in a book published in 2019 that Trump raped her in the dressing room of a luxury department store in Manhattan in late 1995 or early 1996. did. Trump responded to these allegations by saying that this could never happen because Carroll was “not my type.” Carroll then filed a defamation case against Trump. Earlier, the law barred Carroll from filing a rape lawsuit against Trump because several years had passed since the alleged incident.
