Will Team India tour South Africa or not, BCCI will decide tomorrow

Team India: During the 90th annual meeting of the General Body of the BCCI, a decision will be taken on the upcoming South Africa tour of the Indian cricket team amid the spread of the new variant Omicron on Saturday. The agenda of the 24 points of the meeting also includes an update on the future tour program in which it will be discussed.

To leave on 9th December

Omicron is said to spread faster than the delta variant. Vigilance is being taken about this all over the world including India. This variant originated from South Africa. Team India is to leave for Johannesburg on December 9 but it is not yet clear whether the tour will happen or not. The Indian team has to play three Tests, three ODIs and four T20 matches on a seven-week tour.

This series is not on the official agenda of the meeting but it may come up for discussion during talks on future tour schedule. On the England tour in September, the Indian team was ahead 2-1 in the Test series but did not play the last Test after the Corona case in the team bubble, which will now take place in July 2022.

At present the India A team is in South Africa and has not been called back. Standing on the threshold of playing his hundredth Test, Indian captain Virat Kohli has sought clarity on this issue. He had said that the team is in touch with the management board and the picture will be clear in a few days. The dates for the mega auction of IPL can also be announced in the AGM. Apart from this, India’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup will also be discussed in the meeting.
