Court sentenced in BJP leader’s murder case, seven convicts got life imprisonment

Dumka. A sessions court in Dumka in Jharkhand has sentenced seven people to life imprisonment in a six-year-old case related to the famous murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Zilla Parishad member Bhagwat Raut.

Dumka’s Third District and Additional Sessions Judge Laxman Prasad’s court, in the case related to Session Case No. 151/2016 (Dumka Nagar Police Station Case No. 106/2016), convicted on Tuesday after hearing arguments from both sides on the point of punishment. Accused Jaipal alias Shishupal Raut, Shambhu Raut alias Theku Raut, Pappu Raut, Chintu alias Narayan Hari, Kishore Yadav, Munna Dubey and Viplav Sharma were sentenced to life imprisonment under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and fined Rs 20,000 each. sentenced to do

In default of payment of the fine, all will have to undergo simple imprisonment for 6-6 months. At the same time, the court has sentenced all the accused to three years imprisonment under section 120 (b) and 34 of Bhadvi and five years imprisonment under 27 Arms Act along with a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

In default of payment of fine under this section, all the accused shall undergo simple imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months. In this way, all the accused will have to pay a total amount of two lakh ten thousand rupees as fine amount. All the sentences will run concurrently.

In-charge Public Prosecutor Champa Kumari appeared on behalf of the government in the case and participated in the arguments and produced 24 witnesses. At the same time, many preferred advocates took part in the debate from the defense side. According to the information received from the public prosecutor in charge, about six years ago on 03 May 2016, BJP leader cum former Zilla Parishad member Bhagwat Raut was shot dead near his house in Mahuadangal.

He was hurriedly admitted to Dumka Sadar Hospital from where he was referred to Durgapur in West Bengal for better treatment but he died on the way. Case number 106/2016 was registered in Dumka Nagar police station on the written application of Ravikant Raut, son of the deceased and all the seven accused were named as accused under sections 302,120(b), 34 and 27 of Bhadvi Arms Act.

After the public murder of BJP leader Bhagwat Raut, there was fierce ruckus in the city for two days. Due to non-availability of bail, Pappu Raut had to remain in jail. Whereas 6 accused were out of jail on bail. On Thursday, the court held all of them guilty under sections 302, 34, 120B of IPC and 27 of the Arms Act. All the six convicted accused were taken into judicial custody and sent to jail.
