Our policies and mentality to exploit nature more and more have brought the entire human race to a point where we all have to reinvigorate the equations of the affinity of nature and man. The current rate of climate change shows that if the world has not yet regained consciousness, then nature is bent on wreaking havoc.
There has been a stir around the world regarding climate change. It is as if nature is beginning to be taken aback by the misbehavior done to it. The areas which have had a long history of drought have started showing signs of floods and the areas which once used to receive heavy rains are longing for rain. The situation can be estimated from the city of Yakutsk, Russia. Yakutsk is a famous city in the Yakutia region of Russia, which is believed to be the only city to be built on the surface of the ice. The maximum temperature there was once twenty degrees Celsius. But in this summer the temperature reached up to thirty-five degrees Celsius. Such a simultaneous increase in the temperature of a city indicates that the mood of nature is not right. Why Yakutsk, the general temperature is increasing all over the world. In scientific language, it is called global warming or increase in global temperature.
Scientists and environmentalists are constantly warning of its dangers. But the world, in its hesitation for so-called development, is ignoring facts that may preface some great danger to the entire human civilization. Frequent sea storms, cyclones, glacial eruptions, continuous landslides, severe summers, severe winters, frequent earthquakes and blazes of forests in different parts of the world indicate that in the courtyard of the climate There is deep turmoil and man cannot ignore it by thinking that what have we to do with someone else’s courtyard fire? When a major environmental disturbance occurs in any part of the world, it should be a matter of concern to the entire human community, because if a fire in one tree in the forest is ignored by the rest of the trees, thinking that what they do, then The whole forest will not be able to escape the horror and terror of the fire for long.
Due to the lifestyle we have adopted in the name of development, toxic gases are being emitted continuously in the atmosphere. The concern about the weakening of the ozone layer, which prevents ultraviolet rays from reaching us, is constantly troubling the experts. On the other hand, the increasing amount of aerosol in the environment is adversely affecting the water cycle of the earth. An aerosol is a state of mixing of solid particles or droplets with gas and due to its excessive amount, the behavior of monsoon has also become erratic. Meteorologists have predicted that this time monsoon will remain active in India till October 15. According to Vikrami Samvat, it will be the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. By this time the activity of the monsoon raises the fear that suddenly very cold winter days will come. Folk beliefs also say that whenever monsoon behaves like this erratic, life has to face new challenges.
Why, from the point of view of monsoon, the months of June and July have been a lot of change for the world even in the summer season this year. The weather broke so many records that scientists even called this year’s season as the ‘record breaking season’. Earlier, in a NASA report, the year 2020 was described as the hottest year in recent history. Even before that, in April 2017, an international organization named ‘Climate Center’ had said in a report that none of the last six hundred and twenty eight months has been as cold as it used to be in the previous year. That is, for six hundred and twenty eight months, the temperature around the earth continued to increase. If the conditions of temperature rise remain the same, then by 2050, how hot the Earth’s surface will be, it can be estimated. Significantly, the month of July 2021 was the warmest in Finland after June 1961.
In Kovola Anjala, a city in this country, there was a continuous heat wave for thirty one days. On July 9 this year, California’s Death Valley recorded a temperature of 54.4 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in the relatively cooler city of Las Vegas crossed forty-seven degrees. On the other hand, due to lack of rain in some parts of Brazil, a drought emergency had to be declared. The will of the weather made it rain heavily in China and Bangladesh. The rain in Germany in July broke centuries of records. World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Petteri Talas had said after seeing this worldwide scene that no country in the world seems to be spared from the devastating effects of climate change.
In a report released in 2018 on rising global temperatures, it was said that due to the increase in temperature, major changes are already taking place in human and natural systems. This change can also be gauged from the current state of the glaciers. Recently, a study revealed that two hundred and sixty six billion tons of glaciers have disappeared every year since 2000. The disappearance of glaciers is actually their melting. The increasing amount of water in the oceans around the world remains a matter of concern to environmentalists, more than twenty one percent of it is from melting glaciers. The melting of glaciers has started to cause a new problem for the population, especially in the mountainous areas.
Due to their melting, a large lake is formed and when that lake bursts, it creates havoc in the area. The reason for the melting of glaciers is also the increase in the temperature of the earth. The condition is that Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain range, is continuously heating up and due to this heat the surrounding glaciers are melting rapidly.
We can call it the greenhouse effect or global warming or any other name. The truth is that our policies and mentality to exploit nature more and more have brought the entire human race to a point where we all have to re-establish the equation of the affinity of nature and man. The current rate of climate change shows that if the world has not yet regained consciousness, then nature is bent on wreaking havoc. Perhaps that is why the Indian culture has sometimes saluted the power of natural forces in the form of gods and sometimes in the form of traditions.
A few days ago, commenting on the changing nature of the weather, Eric Fischer, a scientist from Zurich’s famous organization – Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science, said – ‘Currently the climate is behaving like an athlete after taking steroids. ‘ The man is also responsible for the behavior of this irrational intoxicating force. Is it not the right time to review our behavior towards the environment and nature and instead of indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources, consider those alternatives which assure the entire humanity a happy life free from annoyance, selfishness and fears? Are?
