Team India Star Spinner R Ashwin: Life is not always the same. There are times when you get frustrated for no fault of yours and it is your responsibility to come out of it. No one will relate to this more than India’s off-spinner R Ashwin in current world cricket. This Tamil Nadu bowler, despite being one of the best spinners in the country, is ruled out of Test matches for one reason or the other. But he always makes a comeback and that is why he is considered the great of modern times.

In an interview with teammate Shreyas Iyer for BCCI.tv, Ashwin made a startling revelation. He told that during the Corona era last year, he was afraid that he would not be able to play Test cricket again. Hours after he overtook Harbhajan Singh to become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests, his statement speaks volumes about the struggles the star has gone through.

… felt that I would not be able to play test cricket

35-year-old Ashwin overtook Harbhajan Singh by taking his 418th wicket against New Zealand in the Kanpur Test match on Monday. Ashwin now has 419 wickets in his account. Ashwin said that to be honest, whatever was happening in my life and career for the last few years between the Corona epidemic and the lockdown, I did not know whether I would play Test cricket again or not.

He further said that I did not play the last Test in Christchurch which started on 29 February 2020. I was at the crossroads whether I would be able to play Test again or not. what is my future Will I get a place in the Test team because I was playing the same format? God is merciful and now things have changed completely. Ashwin said that I started playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL when you (Shreyas) were captain and things have changed since then. The video was uploaded after the test match between India and New Zealand.
