BMC had become ‘private property’ of some people, we are returning it to the public: Fadnavis

Mumbai Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday hit out at the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, saying the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had become a “private property” of some people, but the present state government has decided to hand it back to the public. . He said that the construction of concrete roads in the city would be monitored through satellite to prevent irregularities.

It is noteworthy that Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) is in control of BMC for the last 25 years. Fadnavis was speaking at the launch of 500 schemes under the ‘Mumbai Beautification Plan’ in the eastern and western suburbs of the city. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde launched these projects from Andheri Krida Sankul in Andheri.

Terming the Shinde-led government as “people-friendly”, Fadnavis said, “The present government neither wants to make the Municipal Corporation its asset nor does it want any asset to be created from it.” Without naming anyone, Fadnavis said, “Mumbai Municipal Corporation was public property, which went into the hands of a few. For them it had become a private property, but now the chief minister (Shinde) and we have decided that since it belongs to the public, it should be in the hands of the public.”
