Bihar Vis by-elections: RJD in Mokama, BJP ahead in Gopalganj

Patna The Rashtriya Janata Dal in Mokama seat, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gopalganj seat, in the early trends of counting of votes for the by-elections to two assembly constituencies in Bihar released on Sunday. has taken the lead. The Election Commission gave this information.

According to the commission, RJD candidate Neelam Devi is ahead of BJP candidate Sonam Devi by 12,152 votes in Mokama after preliminary round of counting. In Gopalganj, BJP’s Kusum Devi is leading by 637 votes over RJD candidate Mohan Prasad Gupta.

In Gopalganj (3.31 lakh) and Mokama (2.70 lakh), out of the total 6.10 lakh voters, 52.3 per cent had exercised their franchise in the bypolls held on November 3, a senior election official said. A total of 619 polling stations were set up in both the constituencies. A total of 15 candidates – nine in Gopalganj and six in Mokama – have tried their luck in the bypolls. (Language)
