T20 World Cup: South Africa had won 4 out of 5 matches in Group-1 of the T20 World Cup. Despite this, he could not reach the semi-finals. While winning the same number of matches, Australia secured a place in the semi-finals. This happened because of Australia’s better net run rate.

Cricket lovers often do not understand the mathematics of net run rate. Some people calculate it but it is not accurate. In such a situation, today we are explaining to you the complete mathematics of how the net run rate is calculated in cricket.

What is Net Run Rate Formula?
To calculate the net run rate of a team, it is important to know 4 things-
1. How many overs did the team play
2. Total runs scored by the team
3. Total number of overs bowled by the team
4. How many runs scored against the team

When you have the count of these four, then it is put in a formula. This is the formula..

Net run rate = Total runs scored by the team / Total overs played by the team – How many runs scored against the team / Total overs bowled by the team

That is, first the total run of the team is divided by the number of overs it has played. Similarly, the number of runs scored against that team is divided by the overs bowled by the team. After this, the second total is subtracted from the total that came before. What is left now is called your team’s net run rate.

The things that are taken care of in this..
1. How many wickets the team has taken or how many have been lost, it does not matter on the net run rate.
2. If a team is all out before 20 overs, then the formula includes the calculation of all the overs of the team.
3. If a team has achieved the target in 15.3 overs, then it is written as 15.5 considering 0.3 as half over.
