Air Pollution: Several north Indian states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and its adjoining parts have been recording extremely poor air quality during Diwali and its aftermath. Even after being banned in Parali and Diwali, the burning of firecrackers spoils the quality of the air so much that it becomes difficult to even breathe in the air. Not only the elderly, patients of asthma and heart diseases but also normal human beings have to face difficulty in breathing.

Air pollution also affects the heart

Everyone knows how bad this bad quality air can have on the lungs. But in the meantime, a recent study has claimed that the harmful effect of air pollution can also affect the heart of people suffering from high blood pressure and kidney disease. Scientists have found in their research that the increase in glacitin-3 levels in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease with high BP is directly related to air pollution.

The results of this recent research are published online in the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) Kidney Week-2021. The lead author of this research, Hafsa Tariq, while explaining the research said that air pollution is directly related to myocardial fibrosis in individuals with chronic kidney disease. At the same time, Tariq also said that reducing air pollution will reduce heart-related diseases in CKD. This study has been done on 1,019 people for two years.

When does myocardial fibrosis occur?

Myocardial fibrosis occurs when cells in the heart called fibroblasts begin to produce collagenous scar tissue. This can lead to heart failure and death.
