Bangladesh: 24 killed in boat accident

Dhaka. At least 24 people were killed when a boat sank in the Karatoa River in north Bengal’s Panchgarh in Bangladesh on Sunday. Boda Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mohammad Suleiman Ali said that the accident took place around 1:30 pm in Auliya Ghat area. On the occasion of Shardiya Durgotsav Mahalaya, about 70-80 people were going on a ferry from Auliya Ghat of Madiya Bazar area towards Badeshwari Temple. After walking some distance from the pier, the boat started shaking. The boatman tried to bring the boat back to the pier but was unsuccessful and the boat sank. 24 people died in the accident. Eight children, four men and 12 women were among the dead.
