BSP continues to help BJP

The process of helping the BJP started by the Bahujan Samaj Party in the last assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh is still going on. If BJP leaders are calling the victory in Azamgarh and Rampur seats historic, then that history has been made only by the direct or indirect support of Mayawati. While Mayawati helped the BJP by fielding a candidate from Azamgarh seat, she helped by not fielding a candidate from Rampur seat. Keep in mind that the Bahujan Samaj Party has a history of not contesting by-elections. But this time the party ensured the defeat of the SP by fielding a Muslim candidate in the Azamgarh seat.

Guddu Jamali, who had left the BSP, had returned to the BSP a few days ago and the party made him a candidate from Azamgarh. Guddu Jamali got more than two lakh 66 thousand votes and Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav lost by a little more than eight and a half thousand votes. On the other hand, BSP did not field a candidate in Rampur seat. There Ghanshyam Lodhi of BJP won by a vote of 42 thousand. Had there been a BSP candidate and there was a triangular contest, the BJP candidate would not have won. With no other major party candidate, including BSP and Congress, a direct contest between the BJP and the SP, the polarization eased and the BJP won.
