Australia imposes sanctions on Iranian individuals and organizations, Iran condemns

Tehran. Iran has condemned Australia’s imposition of sanctions on Iranian individuals and organizations, calling it interference in the country’s internal affairs. Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said in a ministry statement on Saturday that the Australian government has been violating the basic rights of indigenous Australians, prisoners and refugees for years.

He said that Australia has also given shelter to anti-Iran terrorist and separatist groups. Earlier in the day the Australian government announced sanctions on six Iranians and Iran’s ethics police and Basij volunteer force for what it called “human rights violations and abuses”.

Protests broke out in Iran after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in a hospital in Tehran on 16 September. Iran accused the US and some other Western countries of inciting riots in the country and supporting terrorists.
