Ashwin Gangaraju, SS Rajamouli’s assistant, to be the director of ‘1770’, envisioned by Ram Kamal Mukherjee
Ashwin further said- “As a director, I am more attracted towards those stories which have time-to-time setup, big emotions, scope for larger-than-life works etc. This is something that fits perfectly for me. Initially, I had some doubts in my mind, but after talking to Ram Kamal Mukherjee and understanding his point of view, my confidence increased. After that I came to Mumbai and met the producers of the film Shailendra ji, Sujay Kutty sir, Krishna Kumar sir and Suraj Sharma. We had a long discussion on the film and understood from him how he wanted to take this film forward. Seeing his warmth and attitude of working as a team, I accepted the responsibility of directing this film.
The song ‘Vande Mataram’ is a part of Bankim Chandra’s novel ‘Anandmath’, which almost shook the roots of the British Empire. And the director of this film, Ashwin Gangaraju, has completed 150 years since the song ‘Vande Mataram’ was written when we are celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. V Vijayendra Prasad, India’s most intelligent story writer, who is writing its script, says – “I think Vande Mataram was a magic word. It was a mantra given by Maharishi Bankim Chandra to unite against tyranny and injustice for a nation. We are highlighting the same thing in the film ‘1770’. It tells the story of the unknown warriors who ignited the fire of the freedom movement.
