The Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq, convicted of the 2000 attack on the Red Fort. The court has dismissed the review petition of Mohammad Arif.

In this case, the sessions court found Arif guilty and sentenced him to death in 2005. In 2013, the Supreme Court had upheld the death penalty during the hearing of the case. Now the Supreme Court has dismissed the review petition of Mohammad Arif, while upholding the death sentence of Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq, convicted of the 2000 Red Fort attack.

Terrorist attack by Lashkar-e-Taiba on 22 December 2000

Let us tell you that the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked the Red Fort on 22 December 2000. Three people including two soldiers were martyred in this attack. In retaliation by the Indian Army, two terrorists who had infiltrated the Red Fort were killed. On 31 October 2005, the Sessions Court found Arif guilty in the Red Fort attack case and sentenced him to death.

Even before the Supreme Court had upheld the death penalty.

Significantly, in 2013, the Supreme Court had filed a review petition upholding the death sentence of Arif. Then in 2014, the Supreme Court also filed Arif’s curative petition. After that, once again the Supreme Court has also rejected the review petition filed regarding the sentence of the accused.
